The Association ofResidential Lettings Agents(ARLA) was formed in 1981 as the professional and regulatory body for letting agents in the UK. It was recognised that therequirements of the residential lettings market were so detailed and specificthat a separate organisation was required to promote standards in thisimportant and growing sector of the property market. ARLA has nearly 6,000individual members, representing 3,500 member offices throughout the UKincluding large multi-branch national companies as well as the smaller singleoffice practices. Membership is achieved only by agents who demonstrate thatthey have a thorough knowledge of their profession and that they conduct theirbusiness according to current best management practice.
The National Association ofEstate Agents (NAEA) is the UK's leading professional body for estate agency.Its members practice across all aspects of property both in the UK andoverseas, including residential and commercial sales and lettings, propertymanagement, business transfer, auctioneering and land. The Association wasestablished with the goal of upholding good practice and high professionalstandards in the UK. Today, its key roles include providing help and guidancefor property professionals across a broad spectrum of disciplines, whilecontinually campaigning to make the property market more efficient anduser-friendly for the home buying and selling public.
The Property Ombudsman (TPO) provides fair and reasonable resolutions to disputes between members of the public and estate agents who are members of the TPO Scheme or who have registered with the TPO Approved Estate Agents Redress Scheme. Firms who are members, follow the TPO Code of Practice for Residential Sales.

The Property Ombudsman (TPO) Scheme provides a free, fair and independent service for dealing with unresolved disputes between member agents and tenants and landlords of property in the UK. The TPO is a member of the British and Irish Ombudsman Association and follows the standards and rules of the association. The Ombudsman is totally independent of the TPO Scheme member agents and reports directly to the TPO Council, which has a majority of non-industry members.
