Tories 'should improve PRS'

Team Association customers might be intrigued to
read that one national charity is calling on the Conservative Party
to improve the private-rented sector (PRS).
Leslie Morphy, chief executive at Crisis, which was founded in
response to the film Cathy Come Home in 1967, said that the PRS has
the potential to provide all tenants with well-maintained and
managed properties.
Her comments precede tomorrow's launch of a joint proposal from
Crisis and the National Landlords Association (NLA), entitled New
directions for renting: A new vision for the private-rented
sector.
"They must ensure that support is available to help people on low
incomes access the PRS, drive out the worst elements of the sector
and reform housing benefit to promote housing stability and ensure
that work always pays," stated Ms Morphy.
NLA chairman David Salusbury added that while most landlords are
professional and business-orientated, a small number of operators
continue to bring the PRS into disrepute.
